概要
ドナルド・レイ・ポロックの小説を原作に、戦後アメリカの田舎町で暴力と欲望にまみれた人間たちが起こす負の連鎖を描く。オハイオ州の田舎町。幼い頃に両親を相次いで亡くしたアーヴィンは、祖母の元で義妹レノラとともに育つ。亡き父にまつわるトラウマを抱えながらも、愛する家族を守ろうともがくアーヴィン。そんな彼の運命は、世俗の欲にまみれた牧師、殺人鬼カップル、腐敗した保安官らの思惑と絡み合い、暴力の連鎖へと引きずり込まれていく。
